About Siragu

Siragu endeavors to bolster economic wellbeing by empowering underprivileged women to increase their right to economic resources and ability to make decisions that benefit themselves, their families and their communities. Siragu endeavors to show them the way by providing substantial information, skill training, and financial resources to develop their abilities to become creative and independent. Investing in women’s economic empowerment sets a path for poverty reduction and gender equality. This is done by providing:

1) Skill Training

Siragu primarily aims at imparting the skill of ‘tailoring’ to these women from the less privileged areas. After learning tailoring, the women engage in making eco-friendly products out of Jute, Newspaper, Up-cycled Denim and Cloth. The women also learn to develop their skills in hand embroidery. Products such as candles, organic soaps and incense sticks are also made by them.

2) A Dignified Work Space

After a structured training, the beneficiaries are provided free use of the fully equipped work space at the Siragu Self Help Center where they make products as per their skill set. Siragu provides the necessary infrastructure to these women to ensure they have adequate wages and safe working conditions.

3) Regular Income

The products manufactured at the center are then sold through various offline and online mediums to enable the constituents to make an earning. Siragu continues to hand hold these beneficiaries and provide higher skills and teach them innovative product designs.

4) Financial Independence

Siragu fosters economic empowerment by teaching the women thrift to save and invest small amounts of their earnings in banks / post office savings accounts. With improved financial security they can afford better healthcare, to purchase goods for themselves and their children, and play a leadership role in their communities.

5) Entrepreneurship

Siragu helps women gain access to basic financial services and other resources to achieve their dream of becoming a ‘Womenpreneur.’ Their entrepreneurial quest helps in building better livelihoods and in creating businesses that provide employment and boost local economies.

Current Impact and Key Achievements:

1. 500+ women directly upskilled in tailoring

2. ~50% average increase in income levels of the women beneficiaries

3. 50,000+ eco-friendly products manufactured for clients across the globe

4. Strong network of 25+ corporate and NGO partners across India

5. Over Rs 10 million raised for various impact projects

6. 26,000+ people impacted directly during Covid-19 Relief. Efforts were recognized by Invest India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry

7. 10 Touch free handwashing units installed across Government Schools and Primary Health Centers in Tamil Nadu, enabling 12,000+ washes per day

8. Specialized and approved reusable sanitary pads developed through in-house R&D
