Bangalore is home to over 3 lakh stray animals and the covid-19 pandemic resulted in an unexpected lockdown that led to the closure of shops, restaurants and other joints that stray animals relied on, for food.
We at PfA decided to rise to the occasion and create a team of our volunteers to feed these animals. As a part of this project, we procure various types of food and water and feed animals during the day and night. We started this on 14th of April 2020 and have been successful in feeding over 8500 meals to over 5000 dogs from various areas of South Bangalore. Our aim is to expand our operations to reach more areas of the city by hiring 3 people and cater to the logistical costs involved in the process.
To sustain our project till the end of June 2020, the operational cost is an estimated Rs. 5000/- a day and we will continue if the lockdown persist for a longer period of time.
Any additional funding will be used: Towards the rescue and treatment of Urban Wildlife. We are a wildlife hospital tending to injured urban wildlife of our city. We encounter various species of mammals, birds and reptiles that would have succumbed to man-made causes directly or indirectly. Fractured limbs / wings, wounds, head injuries and damaged feathers are the most common cases we witness in birds / aves; Spinal injuries, vehicle run overs and lacerated wounds are commonly seen in reptiles while head injuries, electrocution burns, spinal injuries, wounds and fractured limbs in mammals. Treatment varies with each type of case and species. Some injuries are dealt with minor treatments while some need to undergo surgeries to achieve successful healing / recovery.
