In March 2020, schools across India were shut down in line with the nationwide lockdown to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 and the re-opening day is still far from near. Students from humble homes have been disproportionately impacted not just by closures of schools, but by an aggressive push by schools and states to introduce online classes. And we are already facing the blow.
Turning Point Children's Motivation and Learning Center works with 50+ students from abject families. The classes have started, while these kids don't have the luxury to own a laptop or smartphone and are presently deprived of their due schooling. Hence, we are determined to install televisions for classroom learning in our Perumbakkam and Kannagi centers We also need Internet Modem to access the internet for availing specific learning facilities.
The pandemic has thrown challenges our way that we had perhaps never anticipated, much less be prepared for. Yet, as education goes online we won't let a single child in our center go without it.
Please help us set-up our online classroom infrastructure.
We need to raise Rs. 30,000 in total
55 inches TV with inbuilt Android facility - Rs.28,000
Internet Modem - Rs.2,000
The online classes are conducted by the government education department between 11.00 am and 12.30 pm, 4.00 pm and 5.30 pm as regular classes. By the evening our facilitators will also conduct classes for children studying in 9th to 12th standard by using learning apps. 26 children from Perumbakkam and 32 children from Kannagi Nagar total 58 children will be benefitted. Apart from this about 250 young children will also be benefitted in the future.
Children from economically weak backgrounds already face unequal opportunities in different spheres of life. We cannot let a digital divide widen those gaps.
