Chennai has faced an intense flood that has affected the most vulnerable groups like the urban homeless who do not have roof above their head and tribal settlements whose huts are inadequate.
In order to each out to these vulnerable groups IRCDUC appeals to provide tarpaulin sheets, bed sheets and nighties for Urban Homeless settlements in Parrys Corner and Tribal settlements in Kadambathur, Thiruvallur District.
These families were affected adversely because of the incessant rains. Few urban homeless though were accommodated at the Chennai Public Schools and the local bodies provided them with food many others were out in the rains.
The urban homeless at parry’s corner are into street vending and the cyclone has also hit their regular business and the people were affected by both cyclone and starvation. IRCDUC collaborated with few organisation and provided them with food packs during the day and night. However they are in need of tarpaulin sheets, bed sheets and nighties to keep them warm and dry during the following months.
The Tribal community at kadambattur is a hamlet where people live without electricity and transportation facilities. The children in the community are deprived of education as most of them have lost interest in education. A couple of months back, IRCDUC took initiative in bring water facilities, solar high lamps and a community education system for the children to learn basic education.
The communities are in need of the following items to keep them dry and warm in the following months, we request you to kindly help us reach out to them.
• Tarpaulin (200 nos.) - ?750 each = 1,50,000
• Nighty (200 nos.) - ?150 each = 30,000
• Bedsheet (200 nos.) - ?200 each = 40,000
